In Balnagask, a Sunday school was started in the local Infant School, and a Junior Boys’ Brigade began in Tullos Primary School.
Mr. Petrie was much involved in the community and in the wider work of the church in Aberdeen and Scotland and was the second minister of the congregation to become Moderator of the General Assembly (1969). During his term of office, he visited Molepolole in Botswana with Mrs. Petrie and that same year Isobel Johnston was made M.B.E. in recognition of all      
The following year, Mr. Petrie left Torry and in 1972, Rev. J.G. McPhee arrived to start a ministry which lasted sixteen years

Having a family of five children arrive with the McPhee's had a stimulating effect on church life. They each brought friends into the church and youth work flourished.
Mr. McPhee started “At Home” after some evening services to encourage a family feeling within the fellowship, and also initiated less formal evening Communion services. The church was involved in Evangelistic outreach in Aberdeen with services led by Rev. Samuel Doctorian and Luis Palau.
During this time, Gary Barclay was called into the ministry. He completed his studies in 1994 and has served the Lord in Croftfoot and now in Bannockburn.
In 1980, Mr. McPhee became the third minister from Torry to be appointed Moderator of the

The young people became involved in Missionary Suppers, O.A.P. evenings, visitation, barbeques and weekends spent together that were both social and spiritual. A youth club was set up to reach out to others in the community.
